Meet Our Pastor: Rev. Wendy Kidd

Rev. Wendy Kidd (photo)Rev. Wendy Kidd, who has been a pillar of support during this transition, has accepted our call to serve as our part-time bridge minister. Her ongoing commitment to us while also serving Hillcrest Congregational Church, the other UCC church in Montrose, is a testament to her dedication. Details are still being worked out, but her responsibilities will include leading our services and providing spiritual guidance. At our Congregation as Leaders meeting on Sunday, July 28th, the congregation unanimously and enthusiastically affirmed her role with us.

Rev. Wendy is available for drop-in “Coffee Talk” conversation twice monthly (subject to change based on the pastor’s schedule):

  • Second Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Coffee Trader on Main Street
  • Fourth Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at San Juan Coffeehouse on Main Street

Rev. Wendy Kidd was ordained with the Metropolitan Denver Association (MDA) of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ (UCC) in 2019. She previously served Gunnison Congregational UCC in Gunnison, CO, from 2015 through 2019. In addition to serving as the part-time bridge pastor at Community Spirit UCC, she has been the part-time pastor at Hillcrest Congregational UCC since 2021.

Wendy is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. She is also a Registered Traumatologist (1996, the Green Cross Project) and a Spiritual Director (2012, Benet Hill Monastery Spiritual Formation Program). In 2020, Wendy became a certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainer.

She received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology from Southern Nazarene University (1990, Bethany, Oklahoma), a Master of Arts (MA) in Christian Counseling from Oral Roberts University (1993,
Tulsa, Oklahoma), and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the Iliff School of Theology (2013, Denver, Colorado)

Wendy was born in Orlando, Florida, grew up in Oklahoma, and moved to Colorado 24 years ago. She and her spouse, Shelly Spalding, live in Montrose with their Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog/Standard Poodle), Oliver. In her free time, Wendy enjoys reading, bicycling, arts and crafts, gardening, hiking, and fly fishing.
