What Membership Looks Like at CSC

Hands holding heart-shaped stoneCommunity Spirit Church was established on the transformative day of Pentecost Sunday in May 2013, a day that celebrates the rebirth and powerful movement of the Holy Spirit. Since then, we have grown into a vibrant community dedicated to faith and love. In 2024, we proudly received full standing as an official church of the United Church of Christ. Together, we strive to embody love, justice, and compassion, shining brightly as a source of hope in our community.

As a congregation, we have a tradition of using the joyful occasion of Pentecost to communicate our desire to be recognized as official members or friends of the church for the upcoming year.

From the very beginning of our existence, it’s been our shared joy to express our covenantal commitments on an annual basis. It helps us remember and celebrate that belonging to the church is an active, ongoing relationship and not simply a “one-and-done” affair that comes with certain privileges (as is the case with a library card or voter registration).

During our worship service on Pentecost Sunday each year, we have an opportunity to formally and joyfully recommit ourselves to the life and mission of our church for another year. For some, this is a moment of renewal; for others, it marks a new beginning. It is also a chance for anyone to declare themselves a friend of the church.

We would not be who we are without our members and friends and the unique gifts, inclinations, and life experiences each individual brings to our common life.

While Pentecost Sunday is our special occasion for officially welcoming new members and friends, we invite you to join us whenever you feel called to be a part of our community. To become a member (or official friend), just fill out the Covenant Promises card and place it in the collection basket during Sunday morning worship or mail it to our church office. If you have any questions or want to explore what it means to be part of a United Church of Christ congregation, don’t hesitate to reach out to Rev. Wendy or any member of our Leadership Team.

We would be delighted to have you join us on this journey!
