Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. - JesusJesus taught that we should treat others as we want them to treat us (Luke 6:31) – including those with whom we disagree. Known as “the Golden Rule,” a version of this teaching can be found in almost every religion in the world.

As the Rev. Dr. Marcia McFee of the Worship Design Studio writes: “There is no more important time to be talking about ‘doing unto others’ in ways that we hope will foster kindness, compassion, humility, respect, and love in the world than right now. With divisiveness – and anxiety about that divisiveness – at an all-time high, how does our faith equip us to survive, and perhaps even thrive spiritually, in this moment?”

The teachings of Jesus – someone who also lived in divisive times – invite us to focus on what the world would be like if we treated others in radically generous ways. What if the church could model coming together to care for one another despite our differences? We are called to follow Jesus’ example of bringing together friends and foes and offering the grace and love of God indiscriminately.

Over the next five weeks, we will be spreading the message of kindness, compassion, humility, respect, and love through a worship series called “Do Unto Others.” This worship series is a collaboration between Worship Design Studio and Resurrection United Methodist Church. You can learn more at Campaign for Kindness.

Join us for worship this fall as we celebrate the fruits of the Spirit!
